Sieben Tage lang hatten die Mitarbeiter der Berliner Zahnarztpraxis KU64 im 160 Kilometer von Kapstadt entfernten Ort Paternoster Bay ehrenamtlich 100 Schüler einer Grundschule sowie 60 erwachsene Bedürftige behandelt.

200 Füllungen, 120 extractions, sealants, and countless: this is the balance of this year's operation, because after the first treatment Marathon 2009, this was the second visit to the KU64 staff in Paternoster Bay - and the third is planned for January 2012.

Fishermans Boat
This picturesque fishing town, 15km north-west of Vredenburg, is one of the oldest coastal towns along the West Coast and is famous for its crayfish. In spring many flower lovers stay here to visit the impressive Columbine nature Reserve just 3 km away. Tietiesbaai (made famous by Pieter Pieterse) forms part of the Columbine Nature Reserve and is frequented by campers and caravaners, especially in December.

Columbine Nature Reserve is about 16km from Vredenburg and 3km from Paternoster. The bay, which is part of the reserve, has many picnic spots and braai facilities. There are basic overnight facilities and ablution blocks.

Als Raum dient der Gemeinderaum neben der Schule, in dem normalerweise die Schulfeierlichkeiten stattfinden, aber auch der Schulchor probt. Als Materialienablager dient ein Billiard-Tisch und die Bühne ist die neue Praxis!

Die Kinder der 6. Klasse kommen sind als Erstes dran. Manche kennen wir auch vom letzten Mal, die meisten sind aber neu dabei, entweder weil sie scheu waren oder einfach Were afraid. Nach ihrem ersten Einsatz von ca. 2 Jahren möchten die Zahnärzte für Nachhaltigkeit sorgen und fliegen erneut nach Südafrika. Ab dem 28. Januar und für 10 Tage wird das KU64-Team ca. 300 Schüler im kleinen Dorf Paternoster (160 Kilometer nordwestlich von Kapstadt entfernt) zahnmedizinisch versorgen und ihnen spielerisch effektive Methoden zur Mundhygiene beibringen. Das Team um Zahnarzt und KU64-Inhaber Dr. Stephan Ziegler besteht aus 3 Zahnärzten, 4 zahnmedizinischen Assistentinnen und 2 Prophylaxespezialisten.



Unterstützt wird KU64 von der gemeinnützigen Laureate Stiftung, der Name des Projekts, das von der Laureate Stiftung finanziert und initiiert wird: WESTCOAST KIDS (www.westcoastkids.co.za). Wir und die Laureate Stiftung freuen uns darauf, einen wertvollen Beitrag zur Gesundheit dieser Kinder zu leisten.
